Urad Dal Milk Bonda

Urad Dal Milk Bonda..A sweeter version of urad dal vada(methuvada)..Tastes so juicy n delicious..A healthy evening snack for kids..Especially for those who dislike/got bored with idlis..

Urad Dal is a great source of protein, calcium, iron, and much more nutrients. Idli is the dish we often make to feed this urad dal. Many studies nowadays say it is the best food in the world. But not all kids like idli. Like every moms, I started feeding idli for my kid from her 6 months, but she didnt like it!!Till her 1.5 yrs, she doesnt like it, n everytime I make idli, it was like a war between me n her to feed it. Gradually she started liking it as she grows, n now it is her favorite!!

But till then I was making methuvada often for her, which she likes too, so that she gets the benefits of urad dal. I will share the usual methuvada recipe soon. This sweet methuvada recipe, I found in a magazine, n my kid liked it too after having it.

RECIPE:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Preparation Time: 10 mins+1.5 hr soaking time
Cooking Time: 10 mins
Serves: 11-12 no's
---------------------------------------------------------------
INGREDIENTS: [1 cup=240 ml]
---------------------------------------------------------------
Urad Dal(soaked in water for 1 hr) - 1/2 cup
Salt - a pinch
Water - as req.
Oil - as req.

To Soak:
Milk - 1 cup
Cardamom - 2 to 3
Sugar - 1/2 cup

METHOD:
--------------------
1. Boil milk with cardamoms. Remove from stove, and transfer it to a bowl with sugar. Mix well and allow to cool at room temperature.

2. Grind the urad dal with water added little by little, to a fine paste in a blender. Don't add too much water. Add little salt, mix well, and keep aside.

3. In a kadai, heat oil for deep frying.  Make small balls from the urad dal mix and pour into the hot oil, cook in medium flame until both the sides turn golden brown color, and then remove from flame. Use little water to dip your fingers often while forming balls, so that the batter doesn't stick to your hand.

4. Soak the bonda in the milk for 30 mins in a bowl with enough space. Turn the bonda with your fingers often in between so that all the sides are allowed to absorb the milk. DONE!!

Your delicious urad dal milk bonda is ready to be served!!

NOTE:
---------------
1. Adjust the 'to soak' ingredients as per your taste.
