Ulundhanchoru(Black Gram Dal Rice)

Hi all..Today I m here with a very tasty n healthy variety rice recipe with Black Urad Dal..It is Ulundhanchoru..That is, rice made with ulundhu..It is very good for people of all ages, especially  new mommies n teenage girls..It is better to introduce healthy food like this to kids so that they will love it n won't avoid it in future..My little one has been eating it since her 1 yr, n it is one of her favourite foods..It is very tasty too, n I make it atleast once or twice in a month..It goes will with my Coriander Thovaiyal recipe n boiled egg..Or any fish fry, especially Mathi(Sardines) fry is jus more than enough..Now, let's see how to make it..

WATCH HOW TO MAKE THE RECIPE:

METHOD:
---------------
1. Soak washed Dal and rice together for 45 mins.

2. Extract coconut milk from the grated coconut for 4 timesby grinding it with required water and then squeezing it . Except the 1st milk, pour all the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th milk in a vessel.

3. Now, in a kadai, pour the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th milk. I got each one 1 cup, so, totally 3 cups. Add a cup of water too.

4. Next, add the remaining ingredients except Dal and rice, and heat the kadai for a few mins.

5. Now, add the Dal and rice, and cook in medium flame closing with a lid. Stir in between. When almost the water n coconut milk has reduced, add in the 1st milk. Add a 1/2 cup of water too if necessary. Cook again for a few mins.

6. When only a little moisture is left, switch off the stove. Allow it to cool n serve after half an hour. That's it!!

Your super healthy n tasty  Ulundhanchoru is ready to be served!! Njjoy!!

NOTE:
-----------
1. You can also make it in pressure cooker. If so, adjust coconut milk and water accordingly.

2. Instead of Samba rice, you can use any rice. In that case, add the rice to the kadai after the Dal has been half cooked or 75% cooked.

3. It tastes great and creamy only when it is a little mushy as I have shown. So, don't make it dry just like other rice varieties.

4. You can adjust Dal and rice ratio as per your wish.

5. If you are using split dal, then water and coconut milk can be reduced a little, since it cooks a bit faster than the whole dal.
