KANJI:
1. In a pressure cooker, add all the ingredients except coconut milk, and pressure cook for 10 whistles in medium to high flame.
2. Extract the coconut milk from the grated coconut with required water in a blender for 4 times. I got about 500 ml milk.
3. After the pressure is released, open the cooker, and add the coconut milk, and heat in simmer.for a few mins. Don't boil. Switch off the stove and serve warm. That's it!!
THOVAIYAL:
1. Peel, chop and clean the Pirandai. Make sure to apply coconut oil in your hands before peeling to prevent itching.
2. In a pan, pour oil, add the curry leaves, whole green chillies and saute until it turns pale.
3. Add the Pirandai and saute again for a few minutes. If the green chilllies starts burning, remove them and then roast the Pirandai. Switch off the stove and allow to cool.
4. In a blender, add the roasted ingredients, salt, and jaggery. Grind well with no or very less water until a smooth Thovaiyal consistency is reached. That's it!!
Your super healthy n delicious Kanji n Thovaiyal is ready to be served!! Njjoy!!
NOTE:
----------
1. Instead of white Dal, black Dal can be used for the Kanji.
2. You can use any rice instead of Samba rice for the Kanji. If so, adjust the water and whistles acccordingly.
3. Coconut can be used for the Thovaiyal if desired.
4. The Pirandai itself has some tanginess, so tamarind or tomatoes are not needed. However, you can add some if you wish.
