Yam Mutton Kurma


Yam Mutton Kurma!! Yam is one nice veggie which tastes greatt with both veg and nonveg ingredients..This Mutton Kurma is very simple to make, n adding yam to it changes the taste very nicely..A must try recipe to make for both tiffins n rice as well..I made this on one fine Sunday for lunch along with plain rice n accompaniments..The result was too good n yummy..Now let's move on to the rcp frnz..



RECIPE:

Preparation Time: 20 mins
Cooking Time: 45 mins
Serves: 4 persons

INGREDIENTS: [1 cup=250 ml]

Mutton - 3/4 kg
Yam - 1.5 cups(chopped)
Onion - 1 big
Tomato - 1 big
Green chilli - 1
Ginger garlic paste - 1.5 tsp
Cardamom(crushed) - 4
Cinnamon stick - 2 to 3
Cloves - 4
Salt - as req.
Water - as req.
Coconut oil - 1 tbsp
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Coriander & Mint leaves - a handful

To grind:
Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
Red chilli powder - 1 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/3 tsp
Saunf powder - 1 1/4 tsp
Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
Whole pepper - 1 tsp
Coriander powder - 2 tsp heaped

METHOD:

1. In a pressure cooker, pour oil, add the cardamom, cinnamon stick and cloves, curry leaves, and onion. Saute until the onion becomes golden brown.

2. Add the slit green chilli, ginger garlic paste, tomato, everything one by one and saute well in between. Add the mutton, salt, 1.5 to 2 cups of water, and pressure cook for 8-10 whistles.

3. Open the lid, add the chopped yam, and cook in medium flame for 20-25 mins. Meanwhile, Grind the 'to grind' ingredients to a smooth paste.

4. Add the ground paste to the Kurma, 1.5 cups or required amount of water, and cook until a perfect consistency is reached.

5. Finally, add the coriander and mint leaves, and switch off the stove. Serve hot after 10 mins..That's it!!

NOTE:
-----------
1. You can also pressure cook the yam separately for 4-5 whistles and add it to the Kurma at step 4,  to save time.

2. The no.of whistles depends on the mutton and pressure cooker you use. I used steel pressure cooker this time, so I cooked for 10 whistles. Usually I cook Mutton only for 8 whistles in aluminium pressure cooker.
