Prawn - Banana Flower Curry


Prawn - Banana Flower Curry..A very delicious recipe indeed..Banana Flower is a very healthy ingredient to be added in our diet..Usually we make pure veg recipes with it..I thought to give a different try this time with nonveg..And that too with prawns!!..This combo worked out really well..It tastes great with Chapati, Rice varieties, Idli, Dosa, n almost with any combo..It is very simple to make too, n u can make it in quick time..Now, let's move on to the recipe..



RECIPE:

Preparation Time: 1 hour
Cooking Time: 15 mins
Serves: 5 persons

INGREDIENTS: [1 cup=250 ml]

Cleaned Prawns - 1 1/4 handful
Banana Flower petals - 1 handful(chopped)
Onion - 2(small size) or 1 big
Tomato - 1
Green chilli - 1
Cinnamon stick - 1 piece
Clove - 4
Cardamom - 4
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp heaped
Red chilli powder - 1 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/3 tsp
Saunf powder - 1 1/4 tsp
Coriander powder - 2 tsp heaped
Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
Salt - as required
Coconut milk(1st + 2nd milk) - 1/2 cup
Coriander leaves - 1/2 handful
Mint leaves - 1/4 handful
Water - as required
Coconut oil - 1 tbsp


METHOD:

1. In an earthen pot or vessel, pour oil, add cardamom, cloves and cinnamon stick. Add the onion and saute well. Next, add green chilli, ginger garlic paste, and saute well. 


2. Next, add chopped tomatoes, and saute well. Now, add the red chilli powder, turmeric powder, saunf powder, coriander powder, and saute until the raw smell goes. Add little water to prevent burning.


3. Meanwhile, soak the cleaned banana flower petals in salt water for a couple of minutes. Now, add the required water and salt to the curry. Next, squeeze the banana flower petals well and add to the pot. Add little more water if needed. Cook in low to medium flame for 20 mins or until the banana flower is cooked well.


4. Now, add the cleaned prawns, and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add the coconut milk, and again cook for a couple of minutes.


5. Finally, add the garam masala, and cook for a minute. Add the chopped mint and coriander leaves, switch off the stove. Close with a lid, and serve hot after 5 minutes. That's it!!

NOTE:
-----------
1. Dont overcook the prawns. Else, it will become rubbery and hard to chew.

2. You can clean the banana flower ahead of time and store in an airtight container in refrigerator, and chop and use them while cooking. However, it is always better to use fresh banana flower petals.

3. You can also soak the chopped banana flower petals in buttermilk instead of salt water.
