How To Bake in a Pressure Cooker

Pressure Cooker Baking..Nowadays, many people including me, are baking in pressure cooker. I started this before a couple of years, and till date I have been baking cakes, puddings in pressure cooker, and everything came out successful. You wont see any difference between the oven-baked stuffs and the pressure-cooker-based ones.

The reason I pressure cook is that, I dont own a OTG or Microwave. I m sure many of u r there like me. So what? If one door is closed, we should find an alternate way ryt frnz? :) . So you are going to see all my bakings in this blog, based only on pressure cooker. Let's see how to do it..

Coconut Flour Biscuit Cake

ILLUSTRATION:
-----------------------------------------
Preparation Time: 5 mins
Cooking Time: 30-40 mins
-----------------------------------------
ESSENTIALS: [1 cup=240 ml]
-----------------------------------------
Pressure Cooker
Steel Ring Stand
River Sand - 1.5 to 2.5 cups
Aluminium Cake Tin
Knife/Toothpick

METHOD:
----------------
1. Take a pressure cooker, pour the river sand to it. Place a steel ring stand above the sand.

2. Now close the pressure cooker with the lid, after removing the gasket and whistle, and preheat in HIGH flame for 10 mins.

3. Meanwhile, prepare the cake batter, and pour in the greased cake tin. Make sure not to fill more than 1/2 to 3/4 portion of the cake tin, thus allowing enough room for the cake to rise. In the below pic, I have filled 1/2 portion of the cake tin.

4. Now after the cooker is very well preheated for 10 mins, open the lid, and carefully place the cake tin on the steel ring stand. I placed it with my hands. You can use a holder too to place it, if you are feared about the heat.

5. Close the lid, and bake the cake in SIMMER for 30-40 mins, depending on the time mentioned in each cake recipe.

6. Now, after the mentioned time, open the lid and insert a knife/toothpick inside the cake. Then take the knife out, and see if it is clean or not. If the batter is uncooked, it will stick into the knife, and you have to bake for some more time until the knife becomes clean after rechecking. You can clearly see my knife is clean. I baked for exactly 30 mins.

7. You can now switch off the stove, and carefully remove the cake tin with a holder(idukki), and allow it to cool. When the cake has come to the room temperature, demould the edges of the cake with a knife/spoon, transfer it to a plate. Apply any icing/glazing if you wish, and cut into pieces.

Your yummmy pressure cooker cake is ready to be served!!Njjoy!!

NOTE:
-----------
1. You can also skip steel ring stand, and place the cake tin directly on sand. Sometimes I do that way too.

2. You can also use salt instead of sand, but I dont use salt because I feel sand is better. Since I saw in a tvshow that, if we use salt, we need to cut the bottom of the cake a little bit after baking, to remove the taste of salt.

3. Use only aluminium cake tin, dont use steel moulds. Because, aluminium is a good conductor of heat, and so you will get your job done in the mentioned time perfectly. Steel moulds take more time, nearly 1 hour or more too, and sometimes you wont get the perfection of the recipe.

4. You can also skip both salt and sand, and place the cake tin simply above the stand(which you get along when buying the cooker), after preheating.

5. Make sure your cake tin perfectly fits inside the cooker. The tin should not touch any of the cooker edges.

6. You can use the same sand/salt for any no. of times. The sand you are seeing in the pictorial is the one which I used for the first time of my baking before a couple of years!! The sand is good till date, but the quantity has reduced automatically from 2.5 cups to 1 1/4 cup now(may be becoz of the heat). Since I had no extra sand in hand this time, I adjusted with it, and didnt face any problem. You can add more sand if the quantity is reduced.

7. You can also use a separate cooker for baking if you wish. But, since we are using sand, your cooker wont get black, and you can use the same cooker for other recipes too, just like me.

8. You can use the same technique to bake cookies, tarts, brownies, puddings, or any baked recipes.

9. While baking, open the lid atleast after 25 mins to check if the dish is cooked or not. Dont open before that. Else, the temperature change while opening and closing the lid will reflect in the outcome of the dish.
